In 2022, Beyond Legal Aid’s visionary founder, Lam Ho, brought our community-driven lawyering model to the national stage in a TED Talk (now with over 1.3 million views). In this compelling presentation, Lam breaks down the complexities of the legal system and importance of centering community members’ stories in court.
“Lawyers are advocates for their clients—and, in court, they're usually the ones who do the talking. Should that always be the case? In an effort to shift this power dynamic, TED Fellow, legal aid activist, and founder of Beyond Legal Aid Lam Ho shares how lawyers can create space for people to tell their own stories in the courtroom, making them active participants in the legal process and producing surprisingly positive results.” -
Beyond Legal Aid prides itself on the diverse talents and expertise of its staff and board members, many of whom extend their influence through literature and media. Several team members have contributed to groundbreaking legal journals, insightful opinion pieces, and thought-provoking essays that illuminate access to justice and innovative legal solutions. These media contributions not only reflect Beyond’s commitment to advance our mission, but also to amplify the voices of those we serve, driving awareness and fostering systemic change.
