At this critical moment for tenant rights and protections across Illinois, bringing on a new partnership is essential to strengthening Beyond’s capacity, expanding our reach, and ensuring that tenants have the support they need to win lasting victories. Today, Beyond Legal Aid is proud to announce and welcome our newest activism partnership, The All-Chicago Tenant Alliance (ACTA).
ACTA is a citywide organization of tenant unions and renters working to build strong, united tenant power against landlord exploitation and displacement. With ACTA’s support, more tenant unions are forming to defend their homes and build collective power.
Reflecting on why this partnership is important for their community members, ACTA representatives shared that:
“Through our partnership with Beyond Legal Aid, ACTA is able to better support tenant unions in their legal battles against their landlords. Without Beyond’s expertise and legal guidance, our unions would be left more vulnerable, often facing subpar to zero legal representation against landlords who are backed by significant resources and influence.”
We also asked them what they are looking to achieve by partnering with Beyond:
“With Beyond, ACTA is working to chip away, union by union, at the armor landlords have against the working class. By organizing and connecting tenant unions across the city and providing them with strong, radical legal support, we aim to build and expand a movement that confronts the landlord class both in the streets and in the courts.”
This partnership marks a powerful step forward in the fight for housing justice across Chicago. By combining Beyond’s revolutionary legal support with ACTA’s deep organizing roots and citywide network, we are building the infrastructure needed to match — and challenge — the power of landlords. Together, we’re not just reacting to displacement and exploitation; we’re proactively shaping a future where tenant unions are united, strategic, and legally fortified. We’re excited for what lies ahead — and we’re ready to win.
